A Life In Tandem is the story of how the human spirit triumphs over illness and grief. It is the story of a mother and son’s love that gives each of them the courage to emerge stronger.
The film follows the journey of Luke Grenfell-Shaw whose life plans are derailed when he is diagnosed with incurable cancer. During his first round of chemo, his brother, John, dies in a freak accident. This spurs Luke to cycle his way through treatment. He then sets off to fulfil their shared dream: to cycle a tandem bike to Beijing.

Luke Grenfell-Shaw travels to Chengdu in China to meet DanDan, a young woman who was diagnosed with throat cancer several years before. Together, they tackle the epic "Four Sisters" mountains of Sichuan, helping each other. DanDan conquers heights she never thought possible and Luke reflects on his identity living with and beyond cancer. Winner of the Kailas Mountain Development Grant.
